The
Stuff of It
 Capri's
shopping style is easy to take. It's street shopping that has it all.
Beautiful lanes to wander. No cars. Allowing you to sashay from
one side of the street to the next, without looking both ways. The fabulously
dressed shop windows. And the goods themselves. Like Gucci's, Tod's & Prada's.
And Loro Piana's.
 But
there's more to it than that. Venture off the beaten track a little.
Go down narrow alleyways. Between a small grocer's shop & the drycleaners,
you may find yourself a shoe store stuffed with leather footwear at great
prices. Not the same old styles either.
We bought a few pair at some obscure place, as big as a closet. With
shoes literally crammed on top of each other in their small front window.
Certainly not as glamorous as the shops on the Via Camarelle but worth
the hunt.
Early in the evening, the shopping demeanor is at its best. It's the
most relaxed time to shop. All day trippers are off the island. The street
lamps go on. And Capri comes to life, with a pre-dinner promenade. Shops
stay open fairly late. And you'll finally get a chance to notice the
real islanders, going about their business of everyday living. Stroll
all the way to the Via Tragara, where the shops end.
There's
more than just high fashion on Capri. Here, shopping takes on a dignified
elegance. The comfort level of shopping on this island is
unsurpassed. And the shoe "hunt" divine...the reason we bought
so much.
