Suzie Style
 It's
difficult to find someone in the style world who has more of it. Style,
that is. In her career she has styled her way through magazine & newspaper
editorships, as well as authoring several of the best lifestyle books
ever published.
Suzie discovered
the Greek island of Serifos while working on her book, "Greek Style," in the mid-1980's. She and her husband bought a little 2-bedroom stone
house, high up in the hills. Renovations began and then expansion, when
the land next to the house was also purchased.
With the
help of an architect and Suzie's innate design capabilities, the little
house is now on 3 levels. The terrain & character of the island had
much to do with the eventual results. Stonewalls & a cave-like courtyard.
Stone floors and carved-out spaces to fill.
The colors
are typical blue & white. The furniture is simple but comfortable.
The accessories are hand-picked and give the home lots of style: antique
mirrors, local pottery, lanterns, family keepsakes and even some American
art. But all kept to a minimum. No clutter.
Suzie and
her family spend as much time as they can at their Serifos home in the
summer. The family has made it a simple place, in keeping with greek island
traditions. And, it provides an easygoing summer lifestyle Suzie loves...so
unlike her lifestyle back in New York City where she's headquartered.
Behind the editor's desk, loaded with work.
"Greek
Style," written with Stafford Cliff & Daniel Rozensztroch and
photographed by Gilles De Chabaneix was first published in 1988. We
think
it's still the best book on the subject. Unfortunately it's out-of-print.
But we've found a source for you that usually has a limited supply
of
new copies available. But don't hesitate, if you want one. Especially
since the price is great. It lists for $40.00 but at
www.a1books.com it's $26.95 + shipping.
