January is the month...

January is the month to... reflect, renew and re-energize yourself. No doubt it's a little difficult to do at home. www.parrot-cay.com has just what you need. The Shambhala Spa offers state-of-the-art wellness treatments in its newly expanded facilities for 2002.

Parrot Cay is part of the Turks & Caicos Islands. The luxurious resort, which includes the spa, is the only establishment on the entire 1,000 acres. You haven't lived until you get a massage on the beach here!

  Enjoy it!

"January Heat"

The Barbados Jazz Festival is the best way to heat-up January. The popular music event, now in its ninth year, always brings some great international talent to this Caribbean island. Like jazzman David Sanborn, for one.

The festival runs from January 14- 20th. Hopefully it corresponds with your winter getaway plans on the island. barbadosjazzonline.com will fill you in with the details. Be sure to catch a concert at Farley Hill Park. A perfect island setting to hear good music.

  Live it!

"Money holds the Cay"

As a result of last September, island lovers with lots of money are seeking out private islands to buy. The market is booming, according to a recent article by Tim Padgett in Time Magazine. After all, what better way to assure yourself of safety & privacy?

How about .sothebysrealestate.com listing of the 2,600-acre Hampton Island (off the coast of Georgia) complete with Greek Revival plantation house for $16 million?

But it's the Bahamas that's receiving the most interest from potential American buyers.
Especially the unknown little islands, called cays (pronounced "keys"). Check out bahamasrealty.bs to get the lowdown these private havens
.

"Scenery Saves the Show"

"The Shipping News" hits the big screen this month with mixed reviews. It's based on Annie Proulx prize-winning novel, starring Kevin Spacey. If for no other reason, the movie's stunning Canadian Island locations make it worth seeing. Think seascapes, rocks & snow.

Set in Newfoundland & Nova Scotia, this is one of those books that are too "deep" to be made into a fabulous movie. If you've read the book, you'll understand. But we loved the movie's scenery anyway.

  Wear it!

"Zip and Go "

Sicilian almond bath salts from acquadiparma.com, an elite line of Italian beauty products, have always been one of our favorite little luxuries around here. And now they've come up with something new. For the traveler, a collection of practical & very stylish leather beauty bags to take on your next journey.

Featured in this month's "Lucky" magazine, we especially like the "Beauty Zips" that come in 4 handy sizes...since we all know that "one size fits all" is not true when it comes to stylish island travel.
