"Beg,
Borrow or Steal It"
If it's all sold out where you live, you better beg, borrow or steal the
May issue of "Bon
Appetit" magazine. It's the special collector's edition, called
Islands of the Mediterranean. Delicious Food in Magical Settings.
This spectacular journey takes you to some of our favorite island restaurants
& tells you what to order. For example: at the Eremo
Della Giubiliana, in Sicily, the homemade focaccia served in their
monastically serene dining room. (Note: we suggest you add a bottle of
their own Il Frate Nero wine to your table). An island food & travel
guide that's a goldmine of great information. This issue's a "keeper."

"Not Just
Any House"
The House
is the new kid on the Barbados beach block. And it's not just any house
we're talking about. This small ultra stylish hotel is the epitome of
hip island hotels. Sleek & modern but with enough local flavor so
you know you're in the Caribbean.
Now until mid-December the rates are "relaxed" which should
entice you more. We love the pure white soft furnishings on the deck.
(How will they keep them so clean?) And the very Caribbean-garbed women
attendants with their traditional white outfits, including white-scarved
heads.
The hotel's claim "it's not a hotel, it's a concept" is pretty
much true. Let's just hope they can keep the place lowkey enough, unlike
the too "highbrow" Sandy Lane.

"Her
Roots are Showing"
Not in Sophia
Kokosalaki's hair, but in this Greek designer's clothes. In the new
Spring/Summer issue of the very visual English magazine, "The Fashion,"
discover the island imagery behind Kokosalaki's creations.
Her Greek island heritage, including time spent on Crete when she was
a child, has given her clothing a distinctive appearance. Shot on the
island at the ancient Palace of King Minos, the article's photos offer
an almost surreal look at Kokoslalaki's "drapey" yet assertive,
feminine style. You'll get a feel for this island, see her roots &
maybe want to buy her clothes.
Write to us at editor@islandstylebook.com
for a copy of the article, if you can't find the magazine.

"Kill Two
Birds "
Newly opened Lunettes et Chocolate in New York City (25 Prince Street)
sounds more eat it! than wear it! Although sunglasses & chocolate
are unlikely bedfellows, this is the place to get your shades this season.
Selima Optique
is the website of the shop, featuring Selima Salaun's hip selection
of sunglasses. We especially like the "Aristote." Large, with
contrasting colors.
Unfortunately you will miss something by not visiting this imaginative
boutique. It's your chance to "kill 2 birds with 1 stone"
(as they say)...introducing your tastebuds to some delicious chocolate
& walking out with a brand new pair of shades, all in one fell swoop!
