Hip Hotels/ Italy
Written by Hebert Ypma
Thames & Hudson, 2002
How exciting. To look forward to a new book in a series. And we knew
we wouldn't be disappointed if it was by Herbert Ypma. Author of the
Hip Hotel series from publishers, Thames & Hudson. Once again, his
latest book has sumptuous photos, supported by informative & interesting
copy.
Hip Hotels/Italy is a welcome addition to the series. It's a hotel-aholics
best friend. Assuming you want to stay at the poshest, funkiest or even
the most bizarre hotels. In this case, throughout Italy. Ypma covers
the ones you need to know (although we could suggest others). If you're
a savvy traveler, you're probably familiar with some of those included.
Oh well, the fabulous photos & his personal "take" on
them is worth your review.
Since the book covers all of Italy, don't expect much in the way of
islands. But his section on Sicily is right-on. Especially the Castello
di Falconara. We agree this grand house is not for everyone's taste.
But if you're a lover of history, antiques, family intrigue...&
more history, then book this islandstyle accommodation.
Ypma also visits Capri, Venice & the Aeolian Islands. Check out
the details (and the dirt) about one of our favorites: the Hotel
Raya, on the little Aeolian island of Panarea.
And the best part? At least for us, the cult leader of savvy hotel style
has made us move up our visit to Sardinia. To stay at the Hotel le Dune.
Hip & off the beaten path, according to Ypma. A perfect island combination!
